SANTA CLARA, Villa Clara.- The Center of Energetic Studies and Environmental Technologies of the University of Las Villas, works in an project of centralized biogas to provide power through cogeneration to produce pork meat in the municipality of Placetas, in Villa Clara province.

PhD in Sciences Manuel Alejandro Rubio, director of the center, explained cogeneration is the use of the residual heat produced by the generation of power by thermal machines.

The scientist added that the excess of waste in Placetas is treated in anaerobic biodigesters, so the initiative of the University of Las Villas would help to achieve a higher use of waste.

Rubio pointed out that Placetas is one of the largest producers of pork meat in Cuba and it concentrates around thirty thousand heads of pigs in a relatively small area,
