Havana, Cuba.- Cuban lawmaker Gerardo Hernandez deemed today that the 9th Legislature of the National Assembly of People”s Power (Parliament) will have among its main tasks to maintain the principles of the Cuban Revolution.

The new Parliament that today begins its constitutive session will assume an immense task, especially defending the principles of our Revolution and the legacy of its historic leader, Fidel Castro, and President Raúl Castro, Hernández exclusively told Prensa Latina.

Likewise, the also Hero of the Republic of Cuba considered as very important to be a representative of the people, who elected by secret and direct vote to the 605 legislators at March 11 polls.

This will be a historic session, the MP assured, referring to the end of the President Raúl Castro’s term, the election of a new Council of State and with it the highest leadership in the country.

On the challenges of the new Parliament, Hernández cited among them to face the problems that still affect us in the economic order because the Cuban people chose them so that their voices were represented in the Assembly.

This will be a historic session, the legislator reiterated, who served a long and unfair sentence in the United States for preventing Cuba from terrorist attacks set up in the northern country against the Revolution.

Internationally known as ‘the Cuban Five,’ Hernández along with Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and René González returned to the Caribbean island after a broad campaign of international solidarity with their cause.
