Maputo, Mozambique.- Mozambique”s Minister of Education and Human Development, Conceita Xavier Sortane, expressed interest in increasing Cuba”s cooperation in education, today highlighted diplomatic sources on the island.

During a meeting with the Cuban ambassador in Maputo, Pavel Diaz, Sortane expressed the government’s interest in deepening Cuba’s collaboration based on financing schemes of international institutions given the limitations of her country.

The two official reviewed the state of the links in the sector and the prospects for its increase.

The Mozambican Minister acknowledged Cuba’s historic contribution to the educational system with decisive contributions to literacy programs, teacher training and education, and more recently, special education.

For his part, Diaz ratified Cuba’s willingness to accompany the development and improvement of the educational system.

The island has 17 teachers in six of the Mozambican provinces.

Sortane thanked the invitation of her Cuban counterpart, Ena Elsa Velasquez, to Pedagogy 2019, which will be held in February in Havana, an opportunity she will use to speak about education in Mozambique, she said.
