Havana, Cuba.- The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) announced that it will return to the poetic work of Federico Garcia Lorca by putting ”Tierra y Luna”, a choreography by the Spanish Maria Rovira.

The creator distinguished in 1998 by the Generalitat of Catalonia with the National Dance Prize mounted this work for the Cuban company that same year, and in a recent visit to this capital she expressed joy to Prensa Latina because more than a decade later she was asked here with affection for that piece.

Rovira has a long history of collaborations with the BNC and the company Acosta Danza, whose director, Carlos Acosta, chose her as a choreographer of a film inspired by him that will be premiered in a few weeks at the International Film Festival of San Sebastian, Spain.

In addition to ‘Tierra y Luna’ (Earth and Moon), with music by X Alfonso, the BNC will perform the comedy-ballet ‘La flauta mágica’ (The Magic Flute), a version of Alicia Alonso inspired by the homonymous work of the Russian choreographer Lev Ivanov.

The performances will take place at the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso on the weekends of August 31, September 1 and 2 and September 7, 8 and 9.

Both choreographies can also be enjoyed in galas of the 26th International Ballet Festival of Havana, which will take place from October 28 to November 6.

The event will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban company, declared this year by the government as National Cultural Heritage.
