TOKYO, Japan. – Roberto Morales Ojeda, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, attended the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito.

The Twitter profile of the Cuban Embassy in the Asian nation reports that the Imperial Palace of Tokyo hosted nearly 200 delegations from dignitaries and senior representatives from all five continents.

The enthronement ceremony of the 126th emperor of Japan, heir to the world’s oldest royal house, is the European equivalent of the coronation of a monarch, the official website of Cuban diplomacy in that country explains.

Naruhito, proclaimed Emperor last May 1st, replaces his father Akihito, now considered Emperor Emeritus, who abdicated on his behalf a day earlier, and whose reign had begun in 1990.
