HAVANA, Cuba.- The historic bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Russia were highlighted this Friday by the head of the National Assembly and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo, when receiving in Havana the President of the Russian Senate, Valentina Matvienko.
Lazo underlined that it is a high honor to have the distinguished visitor on the island again, precisely in the context of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of Havana, and highlighted Russia’s contribution in the restoration of the majestic work of the Capitol.
Matvienko referred to Cuba´s progress in health and education, while valuing the high level of bilateral relations, which are built in an atmosphere of strategic society, she emphasized.
The President of the Russian Senate said the Capitol would remain one of the symbols of friendship between Russia and Cuba, although it will not be the only one, as links are strengthened every day.
Links between Cuba and Russia Are at the Highest Level
The official visit of the President of the Russian Senate, Valentina Matvienko, will be yet another boost to the excellent relations between Cuba and the Eurasian country, the President of the National Assembly and the State Council, Esteban Lazo, asserted.
Speaking to the press after welcoming the senior parliamentary leader, Lazo said it was a friendly meeting, matching criteria on dissimilar issues, and reviewing the bilateral agreement signed in 2013.
Matvienko stated it is very rewarding to visit Havana in its mid-millennium, and to learn of works as impressive as the Capitol, a gift for the Cuban people, and where Russian collaboration was essential.
The Russian politician highlighted that the ties between the two countries are now at the highest level, and remarked the interest of Russian companies in entering the domestic market.
