Council of Ministers assesses key issues of the country.

HAVANA, Cuba.- The President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel, assured at the most recent meeting of the Council of Ministers that we will not give up our conquests and dreams, only possible in our socialism in constant improvement, which we are willing to defend at any cost.

At the meeting held at the Palace of the Revolution, Diaz-Canel referred to the upsurge in the blockade and the reality of Latin America, when many peoples took to the streets; left-wing processes triumph, and the most aggressive right returns, as in Bolivia.

The Cuban President spoke about political and ideological work, which is not only the responsibility of the Party, but of the cadres of all the entities and agencies of the country.

Diaz-Canel insisted that directing involves analyzing, valuing, proposing, implementing, controlling and feedback creatively, and called for banishing immobility and decontrol of resources.

Prioritized Tasks

At the most recent meeting of the Council of Ministers, President Diaz-Canel listed the Government’s priority tasks, including the extensive legislative exercise the new Constitution has become; local self-sufficiency; assurance to the cold campaign and sugar harvest.

The head of State also referred to housing policy; the confrontation with fuel theft; investment plan; exports and foreign investment; computerization and the battle against social indisciplines, among others.

Diaz-Canel instructed to address as a priority the most frequent dissatisfactions of the population such as the high prices of building materials and the absence of agricultural products in some markets.

He also talk about the poor attention to customers; bureaucracy, particularly in housing proceedings; problems with transportation, garbage collection and funeral services.

An Objective Plan Adjusted to Reality

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil, called the Economy Plan for 2020 as objective, adjusted to our reality that does not give up growth and has reserves to exploit.

Among the main concepts for the coming year are not to import what can be produced efficiently in the country, and to maximize exports.

President Diaz-Canel considered that the discussion of the Economic Plan with workers should focus on proposing how to seek more efficiency with the resources we have.

He defended efficiency in all processes; maintaining the savings measures applied to the fuel shortage; to accelerate all exports; and not to result in a lack of resources being justification for not complying, but seeking different solutions.

Anti-Racism and Discrimination Program

The meeting of the Council of Ministers it was presented the National Program against Racism and Racial Discrimination to combat and definitively eliminate the vestiges of racism, racial prejudice and racial discrimination that remain in Cuba.

Deputy Minister of Culture Fernando Rojas said that since the triumph of the Revolution advances against these scourges are unquestionable, but it has been difficult to reverse in hardly 60 years four centuries of inequality.

The fight against regionalism and discrimination on the basis of ethnic and national origin, manifestations associated with racism, are included in the National Program, the monitoring of which will be integrated into the President’s system of work.

Diaz-Canel said that we have every right and the possibility to make some impact to help us to solve these problems and once again show the humanism of the Revolution.
