Lopez Obrador reiterates the asylum granted to Evo Morales is attached to the Constitution.

MEXICO CITY, Mexico. – President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reiterated that the asylum granted by Mexico to former Bolivian President Evo Morales is attached to the Constitution and international law.

At his morning conference at the National Palace, Lopez Obrador was asked about it and he responded with a projection of the Mexican Magna Carta article and read the clause assuring the right of asylum that applies to political leaders.

The Mexican President added that his country acts in accordance with the Constitution, has participated in international conventions and adheres to the two basic, one in Havana and one in Caracas, so it is in force.

Lopez Obrador informed that by legal mandate every person has the right to asylum in that country, and it is done in accordance with international treaties, and applies to political refugees.
