Quito, Ecuador.- Cuba”s Council of State Vice President, Salvador Valdes, visited the headquarters of the ruling Alianza PAIS (AP) Movement in Ecuador, and exchanged with some of its executives before returning to Havana today.

During the meeting, Valdes talked with AP executive secretary, Doris Soliz, and other officials of the Movement about the political, social and economic situation in Latin America.

As for domestic issues, the hosts explained the island’s vice president the current situation, in which they are preparing for the election campaign in view of the general elections in February 2017.

About this issue, Soliz stated that Alianza Pais, with 1,350,000 members, seeks to win the presidency again with the Lenin Moreno-Jorge Glas binomial and get the majority in the Parliament, which attach them great importance.

Despite all votes’ intention surveys favor the government proposal and opposition have five or six candidates, the executive secretary praised the campaign as a tough stage.

For his part, Valdes considered that all the achievements reached in the last 10 years favor the Movement in the race. However, he recommended them to strengthen the work in all sectors and in the country.

He also gave an overview on the state of relationships between Havana and Washington, on which he said there is certainly an approach on some issues, but the blockade still remains.

The vice president stated that Cuba will soon present again a resolution at the United Nations on the necessity of ending that U.S. unilateral policy.

He finally reiterated his government’s willingness to strengthen the cooperation relations with Ecuador and wished them success in the election campaign.
