Havana, Cuba.- The member of the Chamber of Lawmakers of Argentina’s Nation, Daniel Filmus, appreciated Cuba’s support in defending Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, the Parliament of Cuba reported this Tuesday.

Filmus was welcomed by the MP Felix Julio Alfonso, vice president of the Cuba-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Capitol, administrative headquarters of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba. Recently, Cuba reiterated in the United Nations Organization (UN) its support for the legitimate right of Argentina in the dispute with the United Kingdom over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, which are part of the national territory of such South American country.

According to the alternate permanent representative of Cuba to the UN, Ana Silvia Rodriguez, resolution 2065 adopted in the Decolonization Committee is clear and defines the issue of the Falklands. Such text establishes that such a dispute must be resolved through negotiations between the two States, taking into account the fundamental provisions and purposes of the UN Charter.

Since the adoption of a resolution in the General Assembly on the issue of the Falkland Islands over 50 years ago, the international community has attached permanent importance to this issue, she stressed. At present, she set out, there are already 34 resolutions adopted on the issue in the Special Decolonization Committee, in addition to the 11 passed by the Assembly.
