Guatemala City, Guatemala.- Guatemalan Economy Minister Acisclo Valladares said on Monday that a Partial Scope Agreement (PSA) signed with Cuba might be implemented this year.

In late October 2018, Valladares and the Cuban minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, penned in Havana the Second Additional Protocol to the PSA, which has been in force since 1999.

The deal aims to strengthen mutual commercial relations, and establishes preferential tariffs for 28 Guatemalan products and 33 from Cuba.

At the time, Malmierca expressed satisfaction with these agreements in the presence of Guatemalan Vice President Jafeth Cabrera, who headed the delegation of businesspeople from his country who participated in the 36th Havana International Trade Fair.

Valladares explained on Monday that Cuba’s certifiers are visiting Guatemala as part of the process to start exports of chicken, spices, peanut and nuts to Havana.
