Medellin, Colombia.- The 28th National Cuba Solidarity, held in Medellin, Colombia, was characterized with constant examples of fraternity and gratitude.

Coming from different Colombian regions, friends in solidarity with Cuba met from November 7 to 9 at an event marked by academic exchanges, music, poetry, dance and anecdotes.

Participants expressed support for and solidarity with the Cuban people and their Revolution.

Our support for the government led by President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who represents the new generations of Cuban revolutionaries, determined and prepared to continue the work of the Revolution, participants said in the final declaration of the meeting.

The condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for almost 60 years was also stressed.

They also demanded the immediate closure of the US military base in Guantanamo (east of Cuba) and the return of this illegally occupied territory to the Caribbean island.

The delegates also expressed gratitude to Cuba for contributing to regional peace and, particularly, to the peace process in Colombia. Aware that the Cuban Revolution has been and will always be in solidarity with all the just causes of the peoples worldwide, our Movement also extends all its solidarity with the peoples who fight for their liberation in the world, and with the progressive and changing processes that have been developed in our region, they said.

The event concluded on Saturday after a three-day busy agenda, with the participation of Ambassador to Colombia Jose Luis Ponce, who headed Cuba’s delegation.

Other participants were Cuban First Secretary Omar Rafael Garcia; the member of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Yara Valera; National Peoples’ Power Assembly lawmaker Yusuam Palacios, and Rene Mesa, from the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The 29th National Solidarity Meeting will take place in Bogota in late November 2020.
