filhav2017Havana, Cuba.-With the participation of 46 nations the Havana International Book Fair in its 26th edition in 2017 is consolidating as one of the cultural events with the greatest importance, said Juan Rodriguez, president of the Organizing Commiteee Thursday.

In the inauguration of the event at Calle de los Artilleros in La Cabaña, Rodriguez said that besides the high attendance of guests, there will be a wide cultural and literary program and extraordinarry popular participation.

The also president of the Cuban Book Institute, underlined that in the 26th edition 26 the Book Fair will open the way to the development of new cultural and commercial initiatives at the time that will address a great part of its activities to children and adolescents, as well as to share digital editions in a crusade to give to know the best titles in the universal literature.

Among the foreign delegations thre are Peru, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and, among the most numerous, the representations of Russia, Ireland and Canada, this year, the guest of honor.

More than 30 authors and 18 editorial houses of that northern nation will be present in the Fair, which will serve as scenario to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.

Considered the most important event in the Cuban editorial movement, the Havana International Book Fair will receive more than five thousand guests among editors, booksellers and authors that will be able to exchange between them and with the public.

During the fair, the work of outstanding Cuban intellectual Armando Hart will be praised, on which diverse panels and talks will take place.

Equally, during the event up to February 19 in Havana -and later to spread to other Cuban cities- there will be a homage to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro (1926-2016), through colloquiums, premieres of documentary films and the presentation of 24 new titles.

Besides Hart, the president of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo; Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz Canel, and representatives from diplomatic corps in Havana.

The Book Fair will reach another 15 Cuban cities.
